psychodynamic therapist and counsellor from mumbai

About Me

I am a Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist. I have experience working with young adults with a variety of psychological vulnerabilities. I also work with individuals experiencing psychological distress associated with perinatal concerns. In my practice, I adhere closely to the ethical frameworks laid out by the American Psychological Association and my privacy policies are in alignment with Indian Law.

For me, a primary aim of therapy is to develop a relationship within which you feel comfortable to be your authentic self. Research has consistently shown that the most important tool for success in therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. It matters even more than the therapist’s training, the kind of therapy they do, or what kind of problem the client has. My aim is to foster a warm collaborative space within which we can explore your experiences and make space for any emotions or feelings that come up in the process.

I believe that you are the expert in the room, which is why I use a client-led approach. This means that I will listen closely to what you say, be open about what I am hearing in your words and how I am understanding your struggles, and often check-in to make sure my understanding and interpretations resonate with you. If at any stage my understanding doesn’t feel true to your experience, we will work collaboratively to get at what feels more accurate to you.

I also use an insight-oriented lens that is mostly drawn from my primary theoretical orientation which is psychodynamic and relational. This means that I will often draw attention to how interpersonal dynamics, both in the past and the present, have contributed to your current ways of coping, relating and interacting with the world around you. Together, we will work on developing insights about which of these coping mechanisms or patterns of behaviour are currently useful for you and which are not (even if they were useful at another point in your life).

In my work, I also keep in mind that individuals live within their broader contexts, and I aim to provide therapy through a lens that does not ignore socio-political and cultural context.
